In the course of our buying rough gem materials we often come across items which are too "cool" to be cut into finished gemstones.  They may show really nice crystal faces or cool inclusions or be more interesting just left as nature intended.   Many people want the organic look and feel of crystals in their raw form.  If you have requests for certain items please contact us...we may well have it..but have not had the time to list it here.

FACETING QUALITY ROUGH:

In the selection below you will find some materials that are suitable for faceting or cabbing.  We will endeavor to list these with our estimation of the grade of the material and also the expected yield or results you might normally expect to get from the material.  Obviously the actual yield may vary from our estimation.  This is out of our control and the final choice on what you cut and how you cut it is the most important factor.  Please note that any material that has been worked or cut is non returnable.  Please contact us prior to cutting if you are unsure about anything.

Three pieces of hexagonal shaped Ruby crystal slices. 15 to 25mm in diameter and 10mm thick. Show good colourand intersecting crystal lines at 120 degrees. From India. Good sized natural Diamond crystal from Argyle mine in Australia. Weighs 6.07 cts and has nice octahedral shape with lots of interesting inclusions and surface features. Has a light champagne colour and is completely transparent but has some wispy veils and gaseous bubble like inclusions. 86 carats and measures 18x15 by 22mm. Good specimen of Peridot from Pakistan. Weighs 113 cts and measures 30 by 30mm with a depth/height of 12mm. Crystals show good terminations and colour is good with medium transparency. Small red and green Tourmaline crystals visible in this calcite/gypsum specimen from brazil. 7x5 cm in size with height of 4cm. 182 ct specimen of a quartz crystal with black rutile needles. Could be cabbed or worked into something . Measures 45mm long by 25mm wide by 20mm. Has good transparency but lots of veils and feathers Nice specimen from Brazil of Aquamarine crystals in a matrix. Main crystal is terminated well and has a medium transparency with greeny blue colour. 35x25 by 50mm high. Specimen lot (or faceting) of 4 citrine crystals from Zambia. Weigh over 103 cts and measure up to 30mm by 15mm. Good specimen of Green Tourmaline terminated crystal from Tanzania. This weighs 8.76 cts and measures 20mm long by 7mm wide. Nicely transparent with a few small inclusions. Facetable if you want. Nice green. Four well terminated crystals of Demantoid garnet from Mozambique. Specimen grade but have good green colour and translucency. Weight of four pieces is 36.82 cts. Back of crystals is rough where removed from base. Nice clean lot of faceting grade Tourmaline from Tanzania. 17 pieces total weight of 105 26 cts. Good yield since most pieces are clean as a whistle and should get up to 7mm rnd and 9x7 oval. Mix of colours as shown. Weight is over 300cts and sizes range from 2 to 18cts approximately. Good value and all show some red translucency and have crystal faces and symmetry. Two nicely coloured Blue Zircon crystal specimens from Vietnam. They have a combined weight of 26.47cts and measure 10mm and 28mm by 10. Not faceting quality but good specimens. Very collectible Dioptase specimen from Tsumeb mine in Namibia. This mine closed many years ago and specimens are rare and expensive. This has many deep green crystals on both sides. Beautiful specimen of citrine crystals on matrix. Measure 40 by 30 mm by 30mm high and has numerous well formed crystals of good transparency and very good colour. Brazilian bi-coloured Tourmaline crystal and others in matrix. The main crystal is 42mm long by 7mm in diameter. It is accompanied by a small cluster of small crystals. All in a clay/sandstone matrix. 7 pieces of golden, blue/green and one red tumble polished tiger eye. Smallest pieces is 15x12 ..largest 30 by 12. Has a nice inner core of Ruby surrounded by the green of the Zoisite. Well shaped crystal of natural Spinel from Vietnam. Back of crystal is rough from where it had been attached so not perfect octahedron. Front and half of sides fine. 25mm high by 20 wide. 65 carats. Three Spinels crystals from Vietnam. The blue is a cluster of smaller pieces with good lustre on surfaces but not much shape. The reds are similar. 125 cts total weight and average size is 20 by 12mm. Four good specimens of Sapphire from Sri lanka. They weigh total of 18.96 cts and measure from 13 to 19.5mm long. Two are white, one has some blue and one has pink. Weighs 517 cts and measures 55m high by 35 mm wide. Well crystalized and transparent with lots of inclusions/feathers etc. Some chipping and abrasions on crystal edges. Nicelyl shaped crystal of natural Ruby from Thailand. This weighs in at 489 cts and measures 60 mm high by 32mm at its widest point. Shows good symmetry and has a good red colour with growth striations. Five pieces of Emerld in matrix from Colombia. Average size is approx 30 by 25 mm. All show some Emeralds and are well priced. Three pieces of quartz showing nice golden rutile needles. Good polish and good example of this desirable variety of quartz. From Brazil. Average size is 20 by 25mm. Crystals are mostly transparent and octahedral in shape. They are sitting on a lemon calcite crystal base. 2 pieces of faceting grade Iolite rough. Light to medium colour and appear to be quite clean inside. The squarish one is 11.5 x 10 by 6mm thick as a size reference. Good medium plus grade of Citrine rough suitable for faceting. Average weight per piece is 0.3 to 0.5 gram. Expected sizes will be up to 5mm round but most will be 4mm. Larger quantity contact us for better price. Superb strong blue colour on this clean beautifully terminated crystal. Could be faceted and you will make money but a bit of a shame to cut such a lovely piece. 25.39 cts and 51mm long by 8mm in diameter. Good colour and measures 21mm long by 3mm thick. Very nicely terminated and transparent and has a little twinned crystal growing along side also teminated. Beautifully terminated Topaz crystal in quartz matrix with some accompanying quartz crystals. 45 mm long by 32 wide by 25mm high. Very nice specimen and selling at our cost. Large Amethyst crystal faceting grade from Africa. Measures 42mm by 22 and is 20mm thick. Looks pretty clear/clean to me and should deliver good size gem or gems. Weighs 110.34 cts. Good size Diamond crystal from Argyle mine in Australia. Weighs 3.18cts and measures 10.1mm high by 7.2 wide. Has a distorted octahedral shape with excellent lustre. Has lots of inclusions but has areas of transparency. Light Aquamarine crystals from Shigar, Scardu in Northern Pakistan. Faceting grade and are very light green to colourless tone with good transparency suitable for faceting up to 10x8. 9 pieces total weight 100cts. Beautifully formed dark green Emerald crystal in a quartz matrix. This is from Brazil. Emerald crystal is 30mm long by 7mm in diameter. Good specimen showing Beryl hexagonal symmetry. Spessartite Garnet crystals from Nigeria. 3 pieces with total weight of 33.51 cts. 10 to 12mm in diameter and show good colour(mandarin orange). Translucent but not transparent. Could be cabbed or just as specimens. Very large transparent Amethyst crystal of 74.22 cts. 30mm high by 20mm wide. From Africa. Shows excellent crystal habit and could be faceted if you wish. Colour concentration is mostly in tip. Beautifully formed twinned Sapphire crystal from Ratnapura in Sri Lanka. Weighs 65.36 cts and one crystal is 28mm high and other is 23mm. Faceting grade lot of clean White Topaz crystals from Brazil. 7 pieces with total weight of 157.78 cts. One piece even has a natural light blue colour. Good yield chunky pieces. Dioptase specimen from Tsumeb in South West Africa (Namibia). 30mm wide by 20 by 22 high.  Lustrous transparent green crystals from 1mm to 7mm. Matrix is Calcite.  Rare and very collectible!!! Nicely formed peridot cluster from pakistan. Weighs 43 carats and measures 25mm by 20mm. Has one well terminated crystal in the cluster. Difficult to get peridot crystals with terminations. Weighs 39.26 carats and has a nice pink colour and sharp lustous surface etching on the surface. 22 mm high by 15mm by 10mm. Extra nice quality 20 grams Citrine rough for faceting or as crystals for collectors or metaphysical. Brazilian and size range each piece is 0.3 to 0.5 grams. Flawless and will facet from 2 to 6mm rounds or 4x3 to 8x6 ovals. 2 rough garnet crystals and one that has been polished. Nice for specimens and to show crystal symmetry and growth. Good size at approximately 22mm in diameter for larger. CM134 $NZ 75.00 CM128 $NZ 22.00 CM124 $NZ 25.00 CM117 $NZ 10.00         Aquamarine and Mica on Quartz/Calcite matrix.  From Pakistan/Afghanistan area.  Piece measures 60 mm long by 45 wide by 25mm high.  Aqua is transparent, light blue and 22mm long.  Nicely shaped. White Sapphire 13.22 carats measures 22mm long by 10mm at widest point. Lustrous sharp surface and shows great crystal habit- growth. Quite transparent and shows nice nice included crystals. One tip has slight chip. 150 plus carats of Emerald rough. Nothing really worth cutting but has some good colour and some show crystal habit. Good for window displays or giveaways to the kids. Kunzite crystals from Afghanistan.  32x20x11mm  to 80x33x18mm.  Colors as shown Lemon, Lilac/lavender and light green.  Translucent to transparent but lots of inclusions and nice crystal surfaces.  232 grams total. Nicely terminated showing very good crystal habit. Lovely golden colour and transparent but lots of inclusions. 23.61 carat cluster of Chatham created Emeralds. These synthetics are the first of the better created synthetics. Formation shows how they are grown. Someone has put some glue/epoxy around base to stabilize. Good sized specimen of Aquamarine with intergrown mica leaves. Well terminated and a light blue colour with some transparency. From Pakistan and measures 30 x 25mm with a height of 40mm approx. Nice lot of natural Spinel crystals from Sri Lanka.  9 pieces showing octahedral and variations crystal habit. Pinkish to brownish red.  47 grams.   Largest 20x18 mm.
